MRI – tracking down the pain

Dr. Merettig is one of the few German orthopedists who has the specialized additional qualification in magnetic resonance imaging (MRI).

This modern imaging diagnostic procedure is used to determine the causes of conditions such as disc disease or meniscus injury. With the help of MRI, the affected part of the body is placed in a strong magnetic field. This stimulates the tissue to emit measurable signals. The magnetic waves are recorded and processed into an image using a powerful computer. Unlike X-rays or computed tomography, there is no radiation exposure! People who are afraid of confined spaces (claustrophobia) can be given medication to make the approximately 10-minute lie in the MRI machine easier. The method is not suitable for people who have a pacemaker or certain metals in their body, such as an artificial heart valve, artificial joints, osteosynthesis screws, or vascular clips. The MRI examination will be arranged for you at short notice. There are no waiting times; you will receive an appointment within 2-3 days.
